FAMILY & FEASTING
The Bible is a treasure trove of rich culture, lessons, advice and examples of how to live a healthy, prosperous and fulfilling life. At My Bible Culture, we do our utmost to provide an outlet to explore the Word of God and His Truth, as found in the Bible. This month, we explore the Word to learn about a season of praise, self-reflection, forgiving and asking forgiveness. We are not speaking of “Thanksgiving”, which has a dark history and devastating meaning to the Indigenous people of the Americas. We are talking about the Feast of Tabernacles in the Biblical month of Ethanim.
THE FEAST OF TABERNACLES
(15th day of Ethanim)
The month of Ethanim, which is the seventh month of the Biblical year, as instructed by God, is a very special month to those who wish to seek a closer relationship with God by keeping His Culture. If one could imagine seven days of laughing, celebrating and eating until they burst, they would have a good idea of what The Feast of Tabernacles is all about. This Feast is not one day of “Giving Thanks”, it's 7 days! It is not giving thanks for Country and Flag; so much as it is giving thanks for many things.
First and foremost, it is giving thanks for the Tabernacle that is YOU! Our bodies are a vessel for the Comforter, even the Spirit of Truth and Understanding, should we so choose to keep the laws and culture of the God of the Bible and His Christ.
The Feast of Tabernacles begins with a Holy Convocation, at which time, families gather with those closest to them, feasting, reflecting and giving thanks. Platters of food and drinks are passed around the table amidst positive and self-reflective conversation. By the end of the feast days, everyone who partakes is bonded together and filled with the Spirit of Unity.
This ordinance can be found in Leviticus 23, Deuteronomy 16 and Deuteronomy 31
One of the most enjoyable aspects of The Feast of Tabernacles is preparing the food for the feasting. Many people find a special fulfillment in preparing food together with their loved ones, especially those they are not able to see often throughout the year. They have a unique opportunity to share thoughts, experiences and family memories while making a special meal for their loved ones.
Here are a series of healthy recipes by Immaculate Bites that you can try during the Feast of Tabernacles. We would be happy to receive and share your photos and family recipes as well! What will you be thankful for this Ethanim?
